“Up to half of all women experience weakness in both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy and up to a third still have a tummy gap at eight weeks post-birth. This can cause instability or poor core strength leading to women developing pelvic or back pain or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. These conditions should not be something you should just put up with as a result of having a baby.

It's recommended that women have an initial assessment after their 6-8 week GP check, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues.” - Mummy mot.com

The Mummy MOT is a comprehensive head to toe assessment of mum’s as early as 6 weeks post natal. It is an hour long assessment where you will discuss with me everything in your medical and birth history with some intimate questions to find out about your pelvic floor function. After a discussion about your health and well being I will perform an assessment of your body by getting you to carry out some movement tasks in standing. I will ask your the goals you would like to achieve with physio so that I can make your rehab specific to this. I will then do some assessments with you laying on a massage couch and have a feel of your stomach and look at your scar if you have had a c section. I advise that you bring or wear a sports bra and some shorts so I can see most of your body for the assessment. I will then carry out the internal exam if you have opted for one as this is not mandatory but useful in fully assessing the pelvic floor to give you tailored exercises for your rehab. Please have a read HERE on what to expect in an internal exam. After the internal exam we will have a chat to discuss my findings and get you a rehab program to get you to your goal. I will usually send out a follow up of what we did with your exercises in an email so you don’t forget anything we have discussed.
